Following 2024’s Wobble, Mellowmaker is the second installment in Black Market Karma’s two-part album series on Fuzz Club. Entirely crafted by Stanley Belton—who writes, records, and produces everything himself—the record embraces analogue imperfections, blending lo-fi psychedelia with ‘60s pop, ‘90s neo-psych, and gritty hip-hop breakbeats. While maintaining the washed-out vocals and jangling guitars of its predecessor, Mellowmaker leans more into vintage tape textures, heavier fuzz, and dreamy mellotron samples, creating a raw yet immersive soundscape.
Belton describes Mellowmaker as the counterpart to Wobble, both albums exploring themes of nostalgia and existential longing. With its hazy, hypnotic production, the album seeks to capture fleeting emotions and a sense of displacement, embodying what he calls the feeling of “Hiraeth”—a yearning for a home that may not exist. By weaving together retro recording techniques and modern experimentation, Mellowmaker offers a deeply introspective journey through time, memory, and the ephemeral nature of human experience.
