maya ongaku has always explored what lies beyond the edge of perception, allowing songs, ideas, and experiences to emerge intuitively through the Japanese concept of shizen hassei (“spontaneous occurrence”). Nothing Space Music is the trio’s deepest expression of this philosophy, shaped by several years of international touring and a growing desire to reconnect with silence.
The album began as a reflection on stillness and the quieter spaces beneath the noise of the world. To bring this vision to life, maya ongaku created their own environment: near a seaside shrine in their hometown, they transformed a large soundproof building into Nothing Space Studio, a space designed specifically around the needs of the record and to allow the music to emerge freely.
