With their self-titled debut, Sacred Buzz, the band dives headfirst into a psychedelic universe where science fiction, philosophy and cinematic imagery collide. Fronted by an echoing, almost spectral voice, the album unfolds through surreal lyrics and strange, vivid visions, creating a constant sense of suspension without ever losing its physical impact. At its core, a tightly locked-in krautrock rhythm section provides the album with its hypnotic pulse, while raw, reverberating fuzz guitars blur the edges and carve intricate patterns through the mix. Droning organ textures hover beneath the surface, adding another layer of atmosphere and giving the record its distinctly immersive, hallucinatory character.
Recorded at Monoton Studio in Berlin, Sacred Buzz captures a band clearly moving towards a more refined and expansive psychedelic sound without sacrificing its raw energy. The grooves hit harder, the arrangements feel more assured, and each track seems to unfold like a scene from a film whose storyline remains deliberately out of reach. The album’s visual identity follows the same surreal logic, with artwork by prolific Indonesian illustrator Ardneks providing a fitting face for the music. Sacred Buzz is ultimately less an album to simply listen to than an environment to enter: something that locks the body into its relentless rhythm while allowing the mind to drift somewhere considerably stranger.
