Raw, high-energy garage psych with a distinct 60s edge — that’s the electrifying promise of The Mystery Lights live at Le Botanique. Originally formed in California by Mike Brandon and Luis Alfonso Solano, the band have spent more than a decade forging a brand of rock’n’roll that’s tense, fiery, and unapologetically raw. After relocating to New York in 2012, they expanded their lineup with Alex Amini (bass), Zachary Butler (drums), and Lily Rogers (keys), quickly becoming a staple of the city’s DIY scene thanks to their explosive, visceral live performances.
Spotted by Daptone, they joined Wick Records in 2015 and released three acclaimed albums — The Mystery Lights (2016), Too Much Tension! (2019), and Purgatory (2024) — each sharpening their signature sound: urgent garage rock infused with psych, punk attitude, and nervous tension. In 2025, the band unveiled a new 7” on the PDOOM label run by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard: “Kids of Today” / “Wish You Unwell,” shifting between hallucinatory proto-metal and soulful balladry. Another reminder that The Mystery Lights remain one of the fiercest and most untamed forces in rock today.
