Go Kurosawa - soft shakes

Go Kurosawa is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and co-founder of the independent label Guruguru Brain. Best known as the drummer and vocalist of Kikagaku Moyo, he has spent the past decade building bridges between East and West, sound and silence, rock and ritual. With soft shakes, he opens a deeply personal new chapter: his first solo album, written, performed, and recorded entirely by himself. Following the disbandment of Kikagaku Moyo, Go focused on producing records for other artists, but this project emerged without a master plan, driven only by the instinct to pick up an instrument and see where the music would lead. As he explains, that freedom became the album’s defining concept: creating alone, without expectations, and embracing the unknown.

Recorded between January and June 20024 in Rotterdam, soft shakes took shape through a slow and intuitive process. Each day, Go would enter the studio, experiment with whichever instrument was at hand, and build on ideas only if they continued to resonate the next day. Despite being a solo record, the album retains the openness and spontaneity of a jam session, resulting in music that feels playful, layered, rhythmic, and full of unexpected turns. Created during a period of transition as Go prepared to leave Europe and return to Japan, the record also carries a subtle sense of longing and reflection. soft shakes captures both the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another, inviting listeners to drift through its immersive soundscapes before finding the gentle comfort of coming home again.
