Black Lips - Season of the Peach

Season of the Peach, marks a bold return to form with a 40-minute sonic journey through a genre-bending landscape. Blending garage rock, new wave pop, gritty country, and cinematic western flair, the album’s 14 tracks channel the raw energy of the band’s early years while showcasing a matured, exploratory approach to songwriting. It’s a wild ride that feels both familiar and refreshingly unpredictable.

Lyrically and musically, the album dives into the surreal and rugged side of America, from the barroom despair of opener and closer “The Illusion” to the fever-dream western of “Wild One.” Each track acts as a vivid vignette, "Tippy Tongue" reimagines 60s girl-group pop with a punk twist, while “Kassandra” glimmers with psychedelic elegance and eccentric vocals. “Zulu Saints” offers a raucous, country-tinged romp, full of oddball charm and backroom bravado.

The album was recorded in the pastoral Catskills at drummer Oakley Munson’s Sound At Manor studio, a secluded space built in 2020. This setting allowed the band to break free from urban distractions and dive deep into analogue recording, aiming to bottle the spontaneity and rawness of their live performances. The result is a record that’s both rooted in tradition and unafraid to take sharp, unexpected turns.
