The Warlocks - Rise and Fall (2001) | EP and Rarities (2010)

Long out of print, THE WARLOCKS, will reissue their first album, Rise and Fall, The Warlocks EP (both remastered), and 8 unreleased bonus tracks on October 25, 2010. Rise and Fall, EP and Rarities is a deluxe double CD featuring a special booklet with photos and weird collages and is released by the band’s own newly established label, Zap Banana Records.

The Warlocks emerged as leading lights on the Los Angeles music scene in 1999-2000. In October 2000, Bobby Hecksher signed a two album production deal with one of America's oldest independent label, the Burbank-based Bomp!, who released their self-titled debut EP in 2000 and Rise and Fall in 2001. The 8 bonus tracks included on the reissue are from this time period. The Warlocks went on to release Phoenix (Birdman, 2002/Mute, 2003), Surgery (Mute, 2005), Heavy Deavy Skull Lover (Teepee Records, 2007), and The Mirror Explodes (Teepee Records, 2009)

The Warlocks' earliest recordings often sound like they're channeling a fever-soaked Velvet Underground (circa White Light, White Heat), while drawing further influence from space rock, prog, and Krautrock bands (including Neu! and Hawkwind).

All Music Guide described Rise and Fall as, “This nine-member group — which includes two drummers and four guitarists — often focuses heavily on dark, amphetamine-fueled hard rock skree and titanic singular-riff freakouts (the jagged, sawtooth guitars of the Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray" seem to be a huge influence).”
