'In Limerence' is the second album from London-based trio Black Doldrums. Once described by Uncut as "a fierce combination of post-punk, reverb, drone and melody", their moody gothic post-punk is at its purest and most atmospheric here. Co-produced by Theo Verney (English Teacher, TRAAMS, Egyptian Blue), the record is due for release October 18th 2024 on Fuzz Club. Seeking a cleaner, more direct sound that still captured the whirlwind intensity of their live shows, Black Doldrums' familiar darkwave and shoegaze influences are contrasted here against breezy, shimmering "goth-pop" moments.
The follow-up to their 2022 debut album 'Dead Awake' stays true to the band's spirit whilst pushing things forward in a way that feels timeless and more meaningful, and brings with it a newfound clarity and lyrical honesty. Delving into themes of regret, loneliness, confusion and obsession, it's little wonder that the album title is 'In Limerence' – a state of intense, all-consuming romantic longing. The band (comprised of founding members Kevin Goddard [guitar/vocals] and Sophie Landers [drums] alongside new bassist Daniel Armstrong) say of the new album: "There is a constant theme of trying to find happiness in a confusing modern world. In a time of protest, this album is itself a protest by expressing how to feel in such a world."
